Composition Commissions issued to Sciarrino, Gervasoni and the Composers’ Collective /nu/ thing

Milano Musica, Milan, Italy

With the support of the EvS Music Foundation the festival Milano Musica 2017 is issuing three composition commissions. This year’s festival is dedicated to the Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino who will be composing a new work for flute solo. At the concert to be held at Pirelli HangarBicocca it will be performed together with the spectacular work Studi per l'intonazione del mare.

Another concert will also be held at HangarBicocca: the work I mille fuochi dell’universo by the young composers’ collective /nu/thing is oriented both musically and thematically to Luigi Nono’s masterpiece Guai ai gelidi mostri. The piece by /nu/thing is not a collection of individual compositions but the result of a collective creative process: the individual contributions make up the joint art work. Both works will be performed in the enormous exhibition space of Anselm Kiefer’s monumental Türmen der sieben Himmelspaläste.

A cycle of five madrigals for five voices by Stefano Gervasoni will be premiered. This marks the fourth time the Italian composer has devoted himself to this musical form and its tradition.
