Four Composition Commissions and Concerts

ensemble unitedberlin, Germany

Pared down versions of large-scale orchestral works from the decades around the turn of the century played a significant role in the work of Vienna's Schönberg Society. Even if, at the time, these "reductions" were considered (only) a substitute, it was always a creative act of confrontation with the original, reflecting the great artistry of these generations of composers. Today, the reduction of musical works is carried almost exclusively on a technical level (tonally and visually) as preparation for distribution on the net.

The composers Arne Gieshoff (*1988), Annette Schlünz (*1964), Bernd Richard Deutsch (*1977) and Detlev Glanert (*1960) have each been entrusted with the creation of an evening in the spirit of the Schönberg Society. On these evenings, the four composers will not only perform and explain works developed and presented in the 1920s in the Society, but – under the motto "Live or Stream? A Concert Series in Difficult Times" – they will also present their own compositions.
