Concert Tour: Jennifer Walshe – Personhood

Foreningen Oslo Sinfonietta & Cikada, Oslo, Norway

Jennifer Walshe's new piece for Andreas Borregaard and the Oslo Sinfonietta explores the notion of “personhood”.

What does it mean to be a person in a time when every moment is monitored, exploited and monetized by the devices with which we have expanded our consciousness? What agency can we hope for when even one of the world's most famous pop stars has no control over his or her own life? What does it mean to be human when a billionaire class dreams of eternal life, while the rest of us wonder what to do with our hands when we talk to strangers at a party?

Walshe is known for her strong audiovisual works, and this first collaboration between the Oslo Sinfonietta and the Irish composer also falls into this category – as a staged concert that makes strong use of visual elements and the soloist's body. With PERSONHOOD, Oslo Sinfonietta presents an artistic production that both addresses relevant social issues and contributes to bringing the best of contemporary music to a wide audience across Europe.
