International ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week 2022

Città die Castello, Italy

The International ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week was founded in 2016 and takes place annually in Città di Castello, Italy during the summer season. The grassroots new music collaborate initiative is run by the Italian ensemble Suono Giallo and Greek composer Theocharis Papatrechas. Shaped as a rigorous summer assembly of young composers and new music performers, ilSUONO celebrates excellence in composition, performance, and computer music. The initiative aims to provide emerging composers with a unique forum in which participants work intimately with renowned composers, participate in academically and artistically challenging lectures and organized discussions on composition, electronic music, and performance, write new works to be premiered by the members of the resident ensemble, working closely and extensively with them, and have additional performance opportunities by visiting ensembles.

The 6th edition of ilSUONO will take place in July 16-24, 2022. Berlin-based Clara Iannotta and UC Berkeley’s Edmund Campion are the two resident composers of the year. ilSUONO 2022 features Italian resident ensemble Suono Giallo. ilSUONO also welcomes guest composer Emanuele Carmine Cella (UC Berkeley/Ircam) and guest ensemble Sidera Saxophone Quartet.
16 early-career composers are selected to participate, after an international call for applications. The two resident composers, the resident ensemble, and the artistic director thoroughly review the received applications.
From the submitted pieces, three are chosen to be performed at the Sidera’s residency concert.

July 17 – 24, 2022
Teatro Comunale Degli Illuminati, Città di Castello
