Composition Commission to Philipe Manoury

Orléans Concours International, France

For each edition of the competition, Orléans Concours International commissions a new piece for solo piano or piano and chamber ensemble. In 2022 this work is tasked to Philippe Manoury, a very famous French composer who fittingly will celebrate his 70th birthday in 2022. The new piece will be performed by the seven semifinalists during the competition.

The rounds as well as the final are all performed publicly allowing Orléanais, inhabitants of the Centre-Val de Loire region and others to attend this unique moment, to explore the current repertoire of the piano and to share the enthusiasm of these young talents. In the wake of the competition, the association cultivates a festival spirit by proposing concerts, a conference, exhibitions and masterclasses.

The International Piano Competition of Orléans is proud to claim their singularity in the musical landscape: it is the only piano competition in the world to focus on the repertoire of the twentieth and twenty-first century. For the very first round of each competition the artists have to premiere a composition of their choice. Thus about 400 new pieces were born during the competition since 1994.
