Composition Commission to Steven Kazua Takasugi

No Hay Banda is commissioning a full-length composition from Steven Kazuo Takasugi. His work for ensemble (seven musicians, electronics and video) will be premiered at the Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival in Montreal in June 2023. Takasugi's new work explores the concept of Theater of the Face, using computer algorithms to transcribe musical material into facial expressions and gestures. The music therefore does not appear as an accompaniment to the acting but actually itself becomes the theater as the musicians themselves become actors. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is making the composition commission possible.
