Eleven Composition Commissions

KlangForum Heidelberg e.V., Germany

To mark its 30th anniversary, KlangForum Heidelberg will be exploring the topic of 'dignity' from a variety of perspectives as part of its interdisciplinary project Die Würde – wessen? (Dignity – Whose Dignity?) As a common thread, speaking and singing about dignity and its loss connects philosophical with artistic approaches – approaches to periods of history, to European as well as non-European images of man, but also to aspects of the history, work and impact of KlangForum in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg and beyond.
Sought here are artistic and discursive paths through historically changing definitions and explanations of dignity on the basis of diverse, even conflicting images of man and notions of society – ones which have always not just resonated within music. Also through music they have been, and indeed still are, part of reasoned debate in musical thought. On what thought is the music of the future based? KlangForum will attempt to answer this question, not least by means of eleven composition commissions supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The new works come care of Howard Chen, Berthold Tuercke, Kathrin Denner, Orm Finnendahl, Ludger Brümmer, Isabel Mundry, Klaus Lang, Martón Illés, Aureliano Cattaneo, Stefan Keller and Feliz Anne Reyes Macahis.
