New Opera Days Ostrava 2022

Since its inception, the NODO’s programs have focused on new ideas in music-theater, combining works by emerging composers with those of established artists, and presenting each on the highest professional level. NODO 2022 will feature seven operas. Two of these will be major productions: Prometeo by Luigi Nono and

Superflumina by Salvatore Sciarrino. The other five will be new works by young emerging composers premiered at NODO: Nulanus by Miroslav Toth (1981, Slovakia), Partial Memories by Judith Berkson (1977, USA), a new piece by Matouš Hejl (1989, Czech Republic), a new piece by Lucie Páchová (1988, Czech Republic) and The Clock has considered me a false friend by James Layton (1996, UK). The biennial NODO alternates with the biennial Ostrava Days festival, one of the largest new

music summer programs in the world which is also supported by the EvS Music Foundation this year. The National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, who NODO is collaborating with, provides further expertise in theater and opera productions and together with NODO guarantees a high level of artistic excellence. NODO’s events are produced in several major venues throughout Ostrava: both opera houses as well as Triple Hall Karolina, a large-scale post-industrial facility, and the Cathedral of the Divine Saviour. The experimental opera by Miroslav Toth will take place outdoors, using a running ski-lift for the performers, with the audience scattered on the hill underneath.
