FOCUS

E-MEX, Essen, Germany

In a longstanding and proven collaboration French ensemble Proxima Centauri and German ensemble E-MEX have been working together since 2013. Their new joint program is entitled "FOSCUS". In it, the two ensembles present new compositions by four outstanding composers from three generations and three countries.

In Martin Matalon, E-MEX was able to enlist one of the foremost, best-known composers of international acclaim. Performance and sound artist Mio Chareteau also explores visual aspects in music in her work, translating her thoughts on reverberation performatively for the two ensembles. Didier Rotella devotes himself, among other things, to a hybridization of electronic and instrumental layers of sound. He enhances the program with electronic media such as feed and live electronics. Voro García's work (along with Matalon's) was created for a combined line-up of musicians from both ensembles. For the project he embarks on a musical exploration of thoughts on memory and identity in the work of the writer Jorge Luis Borges.
