Heroines of Sound Festival 2022

Radialsystem, Berlin, Germany

Since 2014, the Heroines of Sound festival has presented early and current heroines of electronic sound. Outstanding early as well as current pioneering works by younger female artists are performed here.

The idea is to make it possible to experience the connecting lines of different genres, while continuously strengthening the presence of artistes on the art and music scene. This is where the concert for the legendary synthesizer Minimoog with commissioned works by Dorit Chrysler and Svetlana Maraš comes in.

The festival also continues its successful collaboration with the ensemble LUX:NM. The program includes new works by Juliana Hodkinson, Mirela Ivičević and Oxana Omelchuk (premiere).

In 2022, one focus will be on the Canadian music scene with early acousmatic music by influential pioneers such as Norma Beecroft, Marcelle Deschênes and Ann Southam, who are still little known in Germany. Together with recent works by Zosha Di Castri, Nicole Lizée, Kotoka Suzuki and Hildegard Westerkamp, who questioned natural phenomena and ecological processes early on and is considered one of Canada's leading soundscape artists, a cross-generational view of this influential music scene opens up.

This year's guest curator is Canadian-born composer Annesley Black.
