Composition Commission to Jan Kopp

Alongside its Federal Youth Orchestra and Federal Jazz Orchestra, Germany's Federal Youth Choir (Bundesjugendchor) is the third and youngest ensemble for the promotion of top young musicians under the umbrella of the German Music Council. During their time with the Federal Youth Choir, the young singers broaden their musical horizons through a wide-ranging repertoire and collaboration with different composers. Contemporary choral music in the form of dedicated commissioned compositions is an essential pedagogical component within the project.

Jan Kopp (*1971) has composed a piece for the Federal Youth Choir on the prescribed theme of "Man and Forest", which focalizes the intertwining of man and forest. In doing so, Kopp seeks ways to describe this relationship afresh, beyond the irretrievably lost pathos of Romanticism.
